Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN standard, the ZigBee is a low rate, low-power consumption, simple interconnection, short-distance wireless communication technology. It widely use in intelligence home, medical monitoring, consumer electronics, environmental monitoring and military etc. Because the ZigBee network node is supplied energy by batteries and the energy of the batteries and transmission is limited, the lifetime of the ZigBee network is based on using the energy of the nodes efficiently. To prolong the lifetime of the network by reducing the energy consumption of ZigBee nodes is very important. This paper reduces the energy consumption of nodes through the study of ZigBee routing algorithm energy-saving mechanism.This thesis first introduces the wireless sensor network, then introduces the characteristics of ZigBee network technology and protocol stack, and makes study of the ZigBee network routing technology deeply. On this basis, specific research based on currently available Cluster-Tree and AODVjr ZigBee network routing algorithm was performed. Through the analysis of energy performance of these two routing algorithms, given a new routing algorithm(Cluster-Tree+AODVjr) which combined the advantages of the two routing algorithms, which is both good route optimization capability, but also sufficient saving energy networks. Compared with the improved routing algorithm, the simulation results show that the improved routing algorithm better meet the design requirements.According to the characteristics of ZigBee network technology, a small ZigBee network is formated. By wireless networking experiment, the temperature collection and transmission experiment and network communication performance experiment to prove the validity of the ZigBee network improved routing algorithm. The experimental results show that the improved routing algorithm can make routing node data transmission more efficient, network coverage wider, network power consumption lower.
