Along with the development of science and living standard, the requirements for living environment are improved steadily. It is wished that living environment is not only a space for rest, but also safe, comfortable and convenient. Therefore, recently the smart home system has developed more and more. The smart home is composed of building, network,communication, and automatic equipment. It is a high-level efficiency, comfortable, safe,convenient and environmental protection living environment. Because of wireless sensor network has advantage in the expanding capability, communication capability and self-organization capability. The smart home based on WSN is an important development in the field of smart home. Therefore, the design and realization of the smart home based on WSN has studied.The basic structure and main function of smart home is analyzed. The theory, advantage and application of WSN is studied. The smart home based Zig Bee protocol of WSN is designed. The network performance of smart home is optimized based on the improvement of the protocol algorithm. The hardware and software design of smart home is finished.The contents are as follow:1. A design of smart home based on Zig Bee is proposed with the requirement of smart home and the characteristic of WSN. The problems which need to solve for realize a smart home of low energy consumption and long period is discussed.2. The function, characteristic and application of WSN routing protocol is analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages of the existing routing protocol applying in smart home are studied. The GEAR is used in the smart home which is designed. The routing home solution method in GEAR protocol is also improved to reduce the energy consumption of network. In the same simulation conditions, the average energy consumption of improved algorithm is reduced by 10% compared with that of the traditional algorithm, and the first node's dead time of improved algorithm is increased about 42%.3. Software and hardware design of the smart home system is completed. The power supply, the clock circuit, the serial port circuit of the main controller is designed. The power supply, the clock circuit, the switch controller of sensor nodes is designed. The application software of the smart home system in wireless sensor network is designed.4. The network test, wireless communication function test and the overall function test of system is finished. The network ability, wireless communication ability, control ability, and data acquisition and processing ability of system are verified. The test results show that the smart home system can meet the design requirements.
