Cognitive radar is a hot researching field of radar technology currently. This radar is able to perceive and analyze characteristics of the external target and the environment.Then it can switch the system operating mode and change the transmitted signal waveform to optimize the allocation of system resources and to make the best overall performance of the radar system. High-performance digital signal processing platform is the core of the cognitive radar systems.Based on multi-core DSP TMS320C6678, the core of high-performance digital signal processing board,paper describes the design of cognitive radar system and signal processing subsystem,introduces the details of the signal processing board, VPX architecture, performance and the capacity of high-speed data transmission exchange.On the basis of conventional radar signal processing algorithms, paper gives three basic mode of cognitive radar. They are full airspace detection mode, multi-beam detection mode and broadband ISAR imaging.The mode of cognitive radar can be switched according to changes in the external environment and the actual needs.In multi-beam detection mode, radar simultaneously transmit up to three beams, pointing to three key objectives.The energy of beams is controllable, we can achieve more detailed information of the key objectives.In broadband ISAR imaging mode,to focus on the important target, wideband chirp signal is transmitted.Doing ISAR imaging on the received echo to obtain the target pattern, attitude and other information.This paper describes the principles of the three modes in detail,gives the overall program and specific implementation technology of three operating modes on signal processing board. Depending on the operating mode,radar assigns the appropriate signal processing resources.At last,paper analyzes the performance of software programs,and uses MATLAB simulation data to verify processing results.
