The development of modern Chinese professional women's is the result of women's modern emancipation movement.Chinese women became conscious, got increasingly involved in society, and began to fight for the same rights and status as men.Running newspaper was an early form of the initial involvement in Journalism, aimed at freeing women, fighting for independence, and campaigning for Chinese women's emancipation.Gradually, the female reporter's image earned respect in the eyes of women,as "a reporter",a holy and righteous profession, became the dream job of many women wishing to become Journalists.Newspapers reported a lively and modernistic image of women reporters:Firstly, they were society's "new women",not only career women and intellectuals, but also pioneers of women's right;Secondly, they were very active in their workplace and very courageous in their job.Of course, they still had a craving for pleasure, even someone was for failing to do her duty sometimes;and finally they are fashionable, pretty and sexy.During the Republic of China, the ranks of female reporters grew, they became active leaders of communities, fighting for women's emancipation, and campaigning against the Japanese.Yet they still suffered, misunderstood by society,up to the point of being harshly criticised. They were unjustly being labelled as "courtesan","vase"and "Butterfly".The criticism towards female reporter's came mainly from men.In the eyes of men, female reporters were overactive and their style was not adequate;men thought they were nothing more than just ornamental and with no real working ability. The writing techniques and physical ability of female reporters were considered to be inferior to those of their male counterparts.Men also believed that women reporters were not professionals, socialising during the day,and dancing at night. When deadline come, they would make use of their "beauty",to persuade male reporters to write for them. These criticisms reveal both society's hostility and curiosity about female reporter's.From a gender perspective, female reporters were a not accepted "the other." From a professional perspective, female reporters were a not acceptable "the other" in the field of journalism too.In order to achieve the business purpose, newspapers used a star oriented reporting tactics and agenda setting to shape female reporter' s "the other"image. In fact, this reflects to some extent the rise of male anxiety towards women,as they tried to conceal the rise of women.
