In recent years, wireless communication technology has been rapidly developed, various wireless access technologies emerging. With the deployment of wireless networks increasingly intensive, overlapping coverage of wireless networks is becoming common phenomenon, which forms a heterogeneous wireless network environment. At the same time, mobile services tend to be diversified, demand of mobile data traffic grows rapidly, leading to the accordingly evolution of mobile terminal technology. The integration of mobile terminals become more sophisticated, many smart mobile devices are equipped with multiple wireless access technologies. In order to enable mobile users get service with QoS guarantees at any time and any place, the integration technology of heterogeneous networks, which can aggregate the ability of various wireless communication systems, has become an inevitable trend of the future network development. In the heterogeneous network environment with overlapping coverage of multiple network forms, a terminal with multiple network interfaces can simultaneously utilize multiple wireless access technologies for data transmission, so that to converge network throughput. Such simultaneous use of multiple links for data transmission is called concurrent multipath transmission(CMT). However, the existing TCP/IP protocol architecture does not support multipath characteristics, therefore, how to design CMT scheme compatible with the existing protocol architecture becomes an important research direction in heterogeneous network integration technology. In addition, due to the difference of radio channel environment between different links, CMT will cause packet's out-of-order arrival at the receiver, which seriously affects the data transmission performance. So packet reordering problem is also a critical issue needed to be solve in CMT technology. For the current heterogeneous wireless networks overlapping coverage scenarios, this paper proposed a new scalable heterogeneous wireless network integration scheme, which uses adaptation layer protocol architecture, not only compatible with all existing wireless access technologies, highly scalable, easy to implement and deploy, but also uses a custom sub-layer module to make joint management and scheduling for each radio link resources, achieving seamless integration between heterogeneous wireless networks. Then, in the integration of heterogeneous wireless network architecture, we use network layer to implement CMT, and propose a CMT scheme based on virtual IP. The scheme is transparent for high-level protocol, fully compatible with the existing TCP/IP protocol architecture, and can adapt to changes in heterogeneous network topologies, with a strong ductility. Finally, we make theoretical modeling and simulation analysis for the problem of packet reordering in CMT system. Two solutions based on the data stream allocation strategy are proposed, which avoids packet reordering occurs while ensuring load balance between various links, so that the performance advantages of CMT can be fully realized.
