A Study On The Social Support Of Female Domestic Workers

Since the reform and opening-up,China began to enter the time of socialization of housework,female domestic workers is a very important occupational group,they live in the city residents' private life and live with the employer long-term.With the increasing demand of domestic services,as a huge migrant population whose living condition drew public attention,have long been neglected by society.The problems of social support of domestic workers also becomes more and more obviously.The healthy development of domestic service industry is related to the domestic workers social support issues,and is also related to improve the quality of family life.The purpose of this study is to understand the living conditions of domestic workers,psychological and social participation issues.The social support of women including content,cognition and experience of the social support network and the subjective effect of social support network for them.From a professional view,aiming at the problems existing in the social support and put forward feasible suggestions on social work in the construction of social support network.The study take 10 female domestic workers in Beijing as an example,by using the method of qualitative research,mainly take in-depth interviews with the 10 female domestic workers.The content of this study mainly includes the basic situation of female domestic workers,the reason and attitude of domestic workers that made the selection about leaving their hometown to work in Beijing,the difficulties and needs of female domestic workers,the subjective feelings of female domestic workers when they get social support and how female domestic workers get social support.The conclusion of the study express the social support of female domestic workers with the view of subject,found that the main body of social support of female domestic workers present siplicity,the form of support is simple,the network of support is narrow,the formal support is lacking.For the social support of domestic workers,the mainly support include emotional support and social support and the economic support and service support is lacking,the relative lack of government support for domestic workers is also presented.The above findings have many implications for domestic workers in social work,in particular,proposed should be domestic workers informal social support networks and formal social support network combination,establish diversified social support networks play a formal support network;to accelerate the reform of the system,strengthen government support and public service;domestic workers rich spiritual and cultural life,improve the ability of self support.
