Since 1978,English teaching has been paid more and more attention to in China by the government and school.English teaching theories and methods have changed a lot to adapt to the development of society.English listening comprehension is involved to processing the complex oral information(phonology, lexis, syntax).Compared with other skills, the teaching of listening skill is paid less attention. What's worse, the traditional training model is not effective in many high schools to art students' listening practice. As a result, high school art students' listening skill has always been a weak point.English studying in High school is the key period to art students'(athlete, fine arts and music specialized students)English learning. In order to change this situation, this research is to explore art students' listening problem and to promote listening teaching by applying input and output theory to listening teaching.Krashen was a distinguished linguist and educational researcher of America, putting forward the well-known five hypotheses about second-language acquisition in1981.Then,Swain did some research and gave the supplement to Krashen's theory. He came up with the comprehensible output hypothesis in 1985.Those theories applied to listening teaching have drawn the attention of linguists, educational theory researchers and first-line teachers.Based on those conditions, the thesis has investigated the listening teaching among the art students from Class 1 and Class 14 in Taishan Middle School.Firstly, the author made a survey about the listening problems among art students in senior high schools. Then two parallel classes(one is the controlled class and the other is experimental class)were separately trained by the new teaching model and the traditional training model. With the aid of different kind of methods(test, questionnaire, observation)the author has found that experimental class students' attitudes and listening scores have changed significantly. The new model is more effective to improve art students' listening ability, which proves the effectiveness of the input and output theory in the listening teaching. Finally the author presents some suggestions for further research of listening teaching.Through the contrast between the two models, this thesis confirms that learner'listening abilities can be improved by a gradual internalization of language rules by means of the new model guided by the input and output theory. It can significantlyraise students' enthusiasm and interest in listening, enhance listening proficiency and at last make art students like English listening. So this model is feasible in the process of listening teaching. Those specific measures put forward in the model may help English teachers to think about the inadequacy of listening teaching, which can provide references for English listening teaching in senior high schools.
