The Reproduction Of Residential Space And Family Relationship

This study explores how family relationships and family spaces interact with each other when we treat the family living space as the organic composition of the family by the in-depth interviews with six women in Lianshui County,Huai'an City,Jiangsu Province.I mainly focus on the family of four partial space-Kitchen and dining room,living room and children's room.I found that the kitchen and the dining room are marginalized in the family space in the last century 90's,They are not integrated with the living space of the family members.At that time there is a quite local characteristic in the family space in Lianshui-"xiaotuozi","xiaotuozi" refers to the small functional space built along the outer walls of the existing houses,the kitchen is generally arranged in this supplementary space.There is no fixed restaurant in the family and the eating place is more casual flow.After entering the new century,County residents moved into the commercial housing.In the new family space,the"eating" space and the "living" space achieve integration,which makes the purelyfunctional space where the family members come to eat and immediately go out after that become a place for emotional communication among the family members.For the big family,the living room played the role of "decompression valve" among the small families.This is taken into account when the family is converted in space.The entry of the TV makes the function of the living room more tense.The living room is no longer the same as the previous area as an empty area for small families to keep the distance between the existence,but it is able to provide room for family members to communicate with each other at a given time.Most families arrange separate rooms for children before or after school age,the development of children's exclusive space is often related to the completion of homework,training independence and so on,but not for their childhood play.When the child is admitted to accept this exclusive space,they are more willing to carry out their own activities in their own spaces.The relationship between the children and their parents is strongly weakened.I also focus on the changes in family space and the relationship between family members,I want to know how they influence each other.The transformation of family space is often an indecent strategy to deal with internal friction within the family.The contradictions in the relationship can sometimes be resolved and mitigated through the transposition of the interior of the family space and the conversion of space.Moreover,The stripping of living space makes the family members have certain"space distance".But the "space distance" to a large extent also avoids the daily life of trivial collision and friction.Family members always consciously maintain the relationship,which narrows the "relationship distance" between members.This not only maintains the distance of a private family life,but also maintains the emotional exchange between the family members.
