This paper adopts the method of historical research and case analysis to discuss the"red classics" cultural tradition and revolutionary cultural heritage's existence and transition at the present times by the case of "How The Steel Was Tempered". At the text,we sort the spread and acceptance of "How The Steel Was Tempered" in the new period and focus on the influence that "How The Steel Was Tempered" as a collective reading memory for the "four and five" generations (who were born in 1940s to 1950s and became the social cultural roles in the 1970s to 1980s), and how this generation to reread and reinterpret "How The Steel Was Tempered" in the new period's cultural context.The thesis is divided into five parts: The introduction explains the significance of the topic, and comprehensive trims related research results about the communication acceptance situation of "How The Steel Was Tempered" since the beginning of 1937.Then the general idea and research method of this paper are presented on this basis. The first chapter, first of all, analyzes the "four and five" generations' spread and acceptance of "How The Steel Was Tempered" by the way of secretive reading under the background of "cultural revolution" period. Then it based on the relevant literature in the new period to clear up and discuss how the people review "How The Steel Was Tempered" in the 80s.The second chapter sorts the spread and acceptance of "How The Steel Was Tempered"since the 90s, and mainly analyzes the literary circle's criticisms and arguments that if"How The Steel Was Tempered" is classical or not and the reason why the TV series"How The Steel Was Tempered" is so hot. The third chapter chooses Liang Xiaosheng as a typical case in the "four and five" generations by analyzing the influence that "How The Steel Was Tempered" has produced on his works and the reinterpretation that he has done for the TV series "How The Steel Was Tempered" to explore the marks that "How The Steel Was Tempered" has made on the "four and five" generation's thinking and writing styles as this generation's reading memory and cultural resources. According to the above discussions and researches, the conclusion extensional discusses the existence and transitions of "Red Classics" and other revolutionary cultural heritages at the present times.
