Since publishing his first new poetry The Winter Sun,the neo-poetry revolution drove Fei Ming all through his life until he composed and studied new folk songs in the later period.With regard to the new poetry,Fei Ming not only poured into great creative enthusiasm as a poet,but maintained unique personality as a poetic theorist.No matter Fei Ming being a poet or a poetic theorist,the combination of these two identities contribute to a characteristic person in the history of new poetry,which is noteworthy by historiographers.Fei Ming's viewpoint of new poetry experienced a big shift from early to late.During the period of On New Poetry,what he focused on most was the literary form.By reflecting on various kinds of issues in the development of new poetry,he tried to explore what new poetry was and what could be counted as good new poetry,which were two key questions for Chinese modem poetry.Even now,it is hard for us to acknowledge that we have found the standard answer.Hence,the issue that we discuss about Fei Ming's thoughts towards the two questions is more than the one of literature history.Until late 1940s,he had stepped into a new stage of his history of poetry.A lot of factors such as the contact with lower-class people,the need of nation-building changed Fei's concept of poetry to a large extent.What he thought of new poetry went beyond the poetry itself.Instead,he concentrated more on the relationship between the poetry and the era.Hence,Fei Ming poured great enthusiasm into the creation and research of new folk songs,which makes him an important part in the field of new poetry.Since the study on Fei Ming's poetics pays much attention to the period of On New Poetry rather than its evolvement in the later time,it is difficult for us to analyze the value of his poetics as a whole.Also,we cannot either attach the tags of the times or discard it when it comes to authentically talking about the relationship between the poetry and the era."History" is a significant part to take into account.Hence,this study explores Fei Ming's poetics in terms of his two roles-poet and poetic theorist,and focuses on the relationship between his creation and the theory.Additionally,it tries to find out how it evolved as well as its inner logic by attaching importance to Fei Ming's poetry in the later period so that his poetics can be known roundly.Fei's poetic evolution records the development track of Chinese modern poetry as well.The study is divided into four parts.The first chapter mainly started with Fei's early experiences,how he created new poetry in early stage as well as his identities of a poet and poetic theorist to study the relationship between Fei Ming and his new poetry.The second chapter focuses on Fei Ming's viewpoint on poetics before 1949 by analyzing his poetry and article like On New Poetry during that time.The third chapter is about the change of Fei Ming's viewpoint on poetics.On the one hand,the author probes the evolvement of his poetics during that period by analyzing the complexity of Fei's personality.On the other hand,the study tries to explain Fei's new role as a person who eulogized the time from two dimensions-creation and poetics.The last chapter narrates the factors about the evolvement of Fei's poetics as well as its complexity and peculiarity so that the significance of his poetics can be dug out further.
