Objective:Our research group combined syndrome differentiation and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),geographical and climatic features of Qing Hai region and clinical experience of our hospital in treatment of chronic erosive gastritis(CEG),independently studied out the erosive gastritis remission prescription(EGR prescription;“Wei-Mi-Shu-Fang”in Chinese)to treat CEG with liver-stomach disharmony, and conducted a study to compare clinical symptoms, endoscopic mucous membrane change and other aspects with a Western medicine group to objectively evaluate the curative effect of the EGR prescription for treatment of CEG.Method:After the project was approved by the Ethics Committee of Qing Hai Province, the research team selected a total of 120 patients who visited the Outpatient Department of Gastroenterology of the Qing Hai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, met the diagnostic criteria of CEG and were diagnosed as liver-stomach disharmony according to differentiation of TCM.The 120 patient were randomly divided into two groups, the control group(n=57)treated with Western medicine(rabeprazole and bismuth potassium citrate oral solution)and the treatment group(n=63)treated with the EGR prescription(Chinese thorowax root, astragalus membranaceus, radix angelicae,Bletilla, panax notoginseng powder, roasted Boswellia carterii Birdw, roasted Commiphora myrrha Engl.,calcined concha arcae,Rhodiola rosea, patrinia, fried fructus aurantii, areca catechu etc.;the dosage was based on syndrome). If any patient in the two groups was infected with Helicobacter Pylori,HP eradication therapy was administered. Both groups were treated for a course(4 weeks),and the quantitative scores of TCM syndrome, gastroscopic erosion grade and other monitoring indexes of the two groups before and after the treatment were statistically analyzed.Result:1.After termination of the treatment courses, the total effective rate was significantly different between the treatment group and the control group(98.41% vs.87.72%;P<0.05),suggesting that the treatment group was superior to the control group for its total effective rage.2.Regarding improvement of TCM symptoms and TCM symptom total score, the before-and-after comparison suggested a P value of below 0.05 in both groups, while statistical comparisons of TCM clinical symptoms scores and total scores between the two groups after treatment also indicated a P value of below 0.05.It was suggested that both therapeutic methods improved patients' clinical symptoms, yet the outcome was better in the treatment group than in the control group.3.Comparison of gastroscopic findings after treatment indicated statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.01),and therefore the treatment group had better gastroscopic findings about curative effect than the control group.4.After termination of the treatment courses in both groups, the occurrence rates in 3-month follow-up were 15.87% and 40.35% respectively in the treatment group and the control group.Statistical analysis showed a difference with statistical significance(P<0.05),and suggested that the EGR prescription with adjustable dosage was characterized by a lower occurrence rate than Western medicine for treatment of chronic erosive gastritis(with liver-stomach disharmony). Conclusion:For treatment of chronic erosive gastritis(with liver-stomach disharmony),the EGR prescription with adjustable dosage presents preferable clinical curative effects in improving clinical symptoms and restoring gastric mucosa.
