Analysis Of The Association Between The Level Of Cholesterol And Prognosis Of Colon Cancer

Objective:To investigate the clinicopathological features of the Total Cholesterol(TC)and low-density lipoprotein to High-density lipoprotein ratio(LDL-C/HDL-C)in patients with colon cancer.To investigate the prognostic of the preoperative TC and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio in patients with colon cancer.Methods : 226 patients with colon cancer were reviewed as the experimental group in Xinjiang military Commad General Hospital between January 2007 and January 2012,at the same time,collecting 230 the medical records of heathy people as the control group,comparing patients and healthy people about the level of TC,LDL-C,HDL-C,LDL-C/HDL-C.Analysis respectively the relationship between the level of TC,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and clinical pathological factors,prognosis.Results: 1.The best cut-off value of LDL-C/HDL-C(=2.6)was identified according to the receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC curve),all the patients were divided into two groups: a high LDL-C/HDL-C(≥2.6)group and a low LDL-C/HDL-C(< 2.6)group.2.Comparing TC level of the experimental group with control group was no statistical significance(P>0.05).Comparing the leve of HDL-C of the experimental group with control group was low(P < 0.05).Comparing the LDL-C,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio of the experimental group with control group was dramatically high(P< 0.05).3.The level of serum TC had correlation with distant metastasis(P <0.05).The level of LDL-C/HDL-C ratio significantly related to lymph node metastasis,TNM stage,distant metastasis(P<0.05).4.Univariate analysis showed TNM stage,distant metastasis,TC,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio were associated with survival(P<0.05,for all).COX multivariate analysis showed that distant metastasis,TC,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio were independent risk factors of PFS of patients with colon cance.Kaplan-Meier Survival curves shows that PFS of high TC,LDL-C/HDL-C group is shor than lower group.5.Conclusion: The TC and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio maybe serve as a marker of prognosis for colon cancer.
