Objective: To investigate the difference of basic psychological needs satisfaction, behavioral activation/behavioral inhibition system and personality traits between depression patients and healthy person. To investigate the effects of basic psychological needs satisfaction, behavioral activation/behavioral inhibition system and personality traits on symptom severity, social function and short-term clinic outcome in depression patients. Methods: Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale(BPNSFS),Behavioral Activation System and Behavioral Inhibition System Scale(BAS/BIS),NEO Five-Factor Inventory(NEO-FFI),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD-17),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Personal and Social Performance Scale(PSP)were used to measure 82 inpatients with depression in the psychiatry department of the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University from August 2015 to April 2017 at baseline and after 2weeks of treatment and 82 gender-matched healthy controls.Depression reduction rate was used as the main efficacy indicator.Independent sample t-test was used to compare the differences between the variables in the case group and the control group.Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation between variables and severity of symptoms, social function.Stepwise regression analysis was used to examine the effects of variables on depression reduction and anxiety reduction. Results: 1.The scores of autonomy needs satisfaction, relatedness needs satisfaction, competence needs satisfaction, behavioral activation system-drive and extroversion were significantly lower in the case group than those in the control group(t=-8.509,P<0.001;t=-7.226,P<0.001;t=-8.723,P<0.001;t=-3.328,P<0.001;t=-3.193,P<0.01),the scores of openness were marginal significantly lower in the case group than those in the control group(t=-1.923,P=0.056),while the scores of behavioral inhibition system were significantly higher in the case group than those in the control group(t=14.545,P<0.001),the scores of neuroticism were marginal significantly higher in the case group than those in the control group(t=1.906,P=0.058).2.Correlation analysis found that baseline HAMD-17 total scores were significantly positively correlated with behavioral inhibition system and neuroticism(r=0.278,P<0.05;r=0.394,P<0.01),while significantly negatively correlated with autonomy needs satisfaction, relatedness needs satisfaction and competence needs satisfaction(r=-0.395,P<0.01;r=-0.219,P<0.05;r=-0.373,P<0.01);baseline PSP total scores were significantly positively correlated with autonomy needs satisfaction, competence needs satisfaction(r=0.272,P<0.05;r=0.227,P<0.05);baseline HAMA total scores were significantly positively correlated with neuroticism(r=0.396,P<0.01),while significantly negatively correlated with autonomy needs satisfaction, competence needs satisfaction(r=-0.336,P<0.01;r=-0.294,P<0.01).3.Regression analysis found that autonomy needs satisfaction, extroversion, behavioral activation system-drive had significant effects on the reduction rate of HAMD-17.The three variables explained the reduction rate variables 27.7%(R2=0.277)of HAMD-17.Behavioral activation system-drive had significant effect on the reduction rate of HAMA,so to explain the reduction rate variables7.2%(R2=0.072)of HAMA.Conclusion: 1.There is a significant difference between depression patients and normal people in the basic psychological needs satisfaction. The basic psychological needs of depression patients obvious are not satisfied.Depression patients with lower basic psychological needs satisfaction have more severity depression and anxiety symptoms and theirsocial function is significantly impaired, autonomy needs satisfaction can effectively predict the short-term clinical outcome of depression patients.2.There is a significant difference between depression patients and normal people in behavioral activation system and behavioral inhibition system, behavioral activation system of depression patients is significantly lower than those in normal people, while behavioral inhibition system is significantly higher than those in normal people, depression patients with higher level of behavioral inhibition system have more obvious depression symptoms, behavioral activation system-drive can effectively predict the short-term clinical outcome of depression patients.3.There is a significant difference between depression patients and normal people in the personality traits, extroversion of depression patients is significantly lower than those in normal people, depression patients with higher neuroticism have more obvious depression and anxiety symptoms, extroversion can effectively predict the short-term clinical outcome of depression patients.
