Objective:Gingival crevicular fluid(GCF)in healthy control group and mild、moderate、severe chronic periodontitis are collected in this study, and the concentration level of S100A12 calcium binding protein and matrix metalloproteinase 8(MMP-8)in periodontitis of diffirent degrees in GCF was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)that to explore the feasibility of S100A12 which act as a biochemical indicator of evaluating periodontal diseases and the correlation of S100A12 and MMP-8.Methods:80 samples are collected in this study and divided into four groups: healthy control group, mild chronic periodontitis group, moderate chronic periodontitis group and severe chronic periodontitis group. Each group contains 20 samples.GCF which have been collected could detect S100A12 and MMP-8 levels by ELISA method with S100A12 and MMP-8 kits. Then statistical methods can be applied to compare S100A12 and MMP-8 levels in different degrees of chronic periodontitis,as well as the correlation between the two proteins. Results:The concentration of MMPs and S100A12 in healthy control group and chronic periodontitis groups have significantly differences(P<0.05),except the healthy control group and mild chronic periodontitis group(P>0.05).The concentrations of proteins in chronic periodontitis were significantly increasing with the degree of inflammation and the content of S100A12 and mmp-8 was linearly positive(r=0.832,P<0.001).At the same time, the value of periodontal clinical indicators such as GI 、PD and AL were positively correlating with S100A12 and MMP-8 levels(P<0.001).Conclusions:The following conclusions are drawn from the calculated statistical data :(1)The S100A12 can be used as the auxiliary biochemical diagnosis marker of periodontal disease, and has certain correlation with clinical indicators.(2)The S100A12 and MMP-8 proteins were closely related in GCF of chronic periodontitis.
