Objective:To explore the relationship between the expression of CSPG4 and the occurrence and development of epithelial ovarian cancer,we detect its expression in epithelial ovarian cancer, benign ovarian tumor and normal ovarian tissue. At the same time,we collect the patients’ clinical data, then retrospectively analyze its correlation with the clinicopathological parameters,to explore the potential possibility of CSPG4 as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for epithelial ovarian cancer.Methods:1.A total of 168 specimens are collected from Hunan Cancer Hospital from 2011 t0 2014,including epithelial ovarian cancer(n = 126),benign ovarian tumor(n = 16)and normal ovarian tissues(n = 26).The protein expression levels of CSPG4 in tissues are analyzed by immunohistochemistry(IHC).2.According to the clinical and pathological data, such as,clinical stage, metastasis, and follow-up,analyze the correlation between CSPG4 and clinical stage and prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer.Results:1.The high expression rate of CSPG4 in epithelial ovarian cancer(39.68%,50/126)was statistically significantly higher than that in benign ovarian tumor(12.5%,2/16)and normal ovarian tissues(11.54%,3/26)(P<0.05).2.The high expression of CSPG4 shows no correlation with age, pathological type, clinical stage, differentiation, omental metastasis, lymph node metastasis and volume of ascites in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer(P>0.05).3.The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis shows that the overall survival and disease-free period of epithelial ovarian cancer patients with high expression of CSPG4 were significantly lower than those with low CSPG4 expression(P<0.05).4.Univariate and multivariate survival analysis of PFS shows that:omental metastasis is an independent risk factor for disease progression, while high expression of CSPG4 is an important risk factor.5.Univariate and multivariate survival analysis of OS shows that:the high expression of CSPG4 is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of the disease, while FIGO stage and omental metastasis are important risk factors.Conclusion:1.High expression of CSPG4 is observed in epithelial ovarian cancer.2.High expression of CSPG4 is associated with poor prognosis in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer.3.CSPG4 may act as an potential independent prognostic factor for epithelial ovarian cancer.
