OBJECTIVE: To compare the difference of postoperative clinical outcomes in DDD between posterior interbody fusion and transforaminal interbody fusion. The study aimed to analyse the MIS-TLIF and PLIF for degenerative disc disease. This articles reports technique, clinical outcomes, design and study who underwent either MIS-TLIF AND PLIF.METHODS: We performed a retrospective study involved a total of 96 patients with degenerative lumber spine disease who underwent MIS-TLIF and PLIF from 2012 January to2014 December. We divided in two methods.Method-I: MIS-TLIF(N=37)and method-II:PLIF(N=59).we compared pre and postoperative visual analogue score for back and leg pain,Oswestry disability index, short form-36 scale. We also recorded operation time, blood loss during surgery and hospital stay period and number of fusion segments.RESULTS: Excellent clinical outcomes were obtained in 90 out of 96 patients at 15 months follow up in each groups. There were no significant differences in back and leg VAS,ODI,SF-36,Fusion condition, and complication at 15 months follow up between the two groups(P>0.05).However,relatively more incision site, blood loss and hospital stay period seen in PLIF group(P>0.05)and the latter was greater in the MIS-TLIF group, there were less incision site, less blood loss and hospital stay(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The few surgical outcomes that were found to be statistically significant between MIS-TLIF and PLIF,but did not affect the overall outcomes. However MIS-TLIF may have better outcomes. In the final clinical and neurological results were similar satisfactory in both MIS-TLIF and PLIF groups.
