Current Situation And Research Progress Of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is defined as carbohydrate intolerance resulting in hyperglycemia of variable severity,with the onset or first recognition during pregnancy.It can occur in the early,middle or late period of pregnancy,and its incidence is 1% ~ 14%[1].GDM may lead to reemergence of gestational diabetes mellitus when the patient is pregnancy next time,postpartum diabetes,elevated risk for cardiovascular disease and perinatal fetal complications.Strict glycemic control can reduce the perinatal mortality and improve outcome of postpartum complications[2].With the development of social economy,the change of diet structure and increasing trend of late childbirth and marry at a mature age in our society.Public awareness of the health of themselves and their fetuses during pregnancy has raised,and the GDM has been getting more and more research and medical attention.This article reviews the diagnosis,mechanism,effect and disease management of GDM.
