There are two types of adipose tissue with distinct functions—white adipose tissue(WAT)stores chemical energy as triglycerides,whereas brown adipose tissue(BAT)consumes energy and releases thermogenesis.In some certain conditions,WAT can convert into BAT,thus improving energy metabolism and reducing weight,which is defined as "browning of white adipocytes".The new hypoglycemic agents glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)receptor agonists can not only reduce blood glucose level,but also effectively lose weight.Previous studies have confirmed that weight loss is associated with inhibition of appetite,reduced food intake and delayed gastric emptying.However,recent studies have found that GLP-1 receptor agonists can improve the function and quantity of BAT as well,achieving weight loss.This review will make a brief summary of the mechanisms about how GLP-1 promote the process of “browning of white adipose tissue”. |
