Objective: To prepare Fluorinated graphene(FG)/ Polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)composites of denture.Meanwhile to test and evaluate its tribological properties,mechanical properties,antibacterial properties and biocompatibility,in order to provide experimental data for the development and application of FG / PMMA.Materials and methods: White Fluorinated graphene(FG)was prepared successfully by hydrothermal reaction,and the characterizations of FG were tested by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Raman spectroscopy(Raman)and Fourier transformation infrared spectrum(FT-IR).The ultrasonic-dispersion and trituration method were used to prepare FG/PMMA composites.High speed reciprocating friction testing machine(UMT-2),scanning electron microscope(SEM)and 3D surface profiler were used to observe the wear resistant.The mechanical properties were tested by Vickers hardness tester and universal material machine.Thin film dense method was used to evaluate the antibacterial properties of FG/PMMA.Biocompatibility of FG/PMMA was detected by MTT.Results :1)Characterization of FG: TEM showed that FG has a typical transparent two-dimensional nanosheet-like structure and irregular amorphous structure with a size of about 0.5um*3um.XPS showed that the content of F in FG was as high as 54.02%.Raman can be concluded that the ordered structure of FG had been destroyed.FTIR showed a peak of C-F covalent bond in FG.2)Characterization of FG/PMMA: SEM showed that the fractured surface was uneven and the sheet structure appeared with the increase of the content of FG.Raman and FTIR showed that composites presented the same spectral pattern as the pure FG when the content of FG was 2%.3)Tribological properties: the friction coefficient and volume wear rate of FG/PMMA composites were significantly decreased with the increase of FG content.The volume wear rate decreased by about 80% when the content of FG was up to 1%.SEM showed that the wear became shallow and narrow with the increase of FG content.When the content of FG was 1%,the width of the wear decreased about 50%.When the content of FG is 1%,it shows the best tribological properties.4)Mechanical properties: The Vickers hardness and the tensile strength of FG/PMMA composites were significantly improved with the increasing of FG content.The Vickers hardness had been increased by about 87% while the content of FG is 1%,The tensile strength had been increased by about 58%.When the content of FG is 1%,it shows the best mechanical properties.5)Antibacterial properties: The number of Staphylococcusaureus and Escherichiacoli decreased obviously with the increase of the content of FG.The Escherichiacoli antibacterial rate increased 100% When the content of FG was 2%.6)Biocompatibility: The fibroblasts(L929)cells adhered and grew well on the surface of the FG/PMMA composites.Conclusions: FG was successfully added to PMMA.FG/PMMA composites had excellent tribological properties,mechanical properties,antibacterial properties and biocompatibility,Therefore,FG/PMMA composites will become a new avenue for the application of dental materials.
