Objective: To investigate the effect of interleukin 33 in the development of Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP)in children. Methods: 80 children with HSP were included in the study, who were divided into 2groups(HSPN group and NHSPN group)depending on urinalysis result.25 normal children were chosen as the control group.Peripheral blood samples were collected for detection. The plasma IL-33 levels were detected with ELISA,The serum immunoglobulin levels were detected with scatterometry, and lymphocyte subgroup(CD3~+,CD4~+,CD8~+,NK cell,T-reg,CD19~+)were detected with flow cytometry. The differential of data from different groups was detected with t-test and single factor variance analysis and the linear correlation analysis was performed with Pearson correlation test. Results: Compare with the control group(117.42±77.47 ng/L),plasma level of IL-33 in HSP group(395.84±111.72 ng/L)was significantly elevated(t=11.601,p<0.05).The plasma levels of IL-33 in both the HSPN group(393.21 ±98.99 ng/L)and NHSPN(404.07±121.56 ng/L)group were significantly elevated compare with the control group(p<0.05),but no difference between HSPN group and NHSPN group(P > 0.05).The plasma level of IL-33 in the HSP group showed positive correlation with serum Ig A,Ig M and Ig G levels(r=0.349,0.351,0.357,P < 0.05),and donot correlate with B cells,T cells,CD4~+,CD8~+,T-reg,CD4~+/CD8~+,NK cells levels and serum Ig E levels. Conclusion: The abnormal elevation of IL-33 in plasma of HSP patients showed that it might have a role in the development of HSP.
