Objective: To evaluate the status and determinants of mental health of the elderly in Mulao Minority Rural Regions in Guangxi.To promote the dissemination of knowledge about mental health of the elderly in rural areas,and strengthen the elderly's awareness of mental health in minority rural areas.And provide a theoretical basis for further research on mental health of the elderly in the minority area.Methods: A cross-sectional household survey was conducted.By means of many phases stratified cluster system sampling,according to the definition of Mulao typical hierarchical living county by government,take the elders of Luocheng county as research group.According to the balanced comparable of life and economic levels,take the Han nation old people in Guanyang county as control group.The questionnaires including family form and the elderly individual basic information form were used to acquaint the object family and personal basic situation.Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90)was used to reflect the mental health situation of elders,and a face to face interview was carried out.Epi Data 3.1 was used to set up a database and double entry check.All of the data were dealt with by software SPSS 18.0.The main methods of statistics were variance analysis,chi-square test,t-test and Logistic regression analyses.Inspection level for ?=0.05.Results: 1.A total of 1 501 people participated in the survey,and the score of ten factors between 1.09~1.66,the standard deviation between 0.20~0.48,and the total score was 120.14±20.64,Total symptoms of SCL-90 index was 1.33±0.23,Positive number average of 18.09,Positive project divide between 2.25 ~ 3.09.A total of 1501 elderly people to participate in this survey,and 662 people have mental health symptoms,the mental health problems of the incidence of 44.1%.2.The score of every factor between 0.83 ~ 2.09,the standard deviation between 0.19 ~ 0.46,and the total score was 117.43±20.31,Total symptoms of SCL-90 index from 1.07 to 1.53,positive number average of 16.59,positive project divide between 2.24 ~ 3.02.3.There were significant differences of scores in somatoform disorder(t = 4.12,P < 4.12),obsessive-compulsive disorder(t = 5.98,P < 0.01),interpersonal relationship(t = 4.97,P < 4.97),anxiety(t = 8.63,P < 8.63),hostile(t = 8.18,P < 8.18),phobias(t = 6.05,P < 6.05),paranoid(t = 3.10,P < 0.01),psychoticism(t = 5.12,P < 0.01)of the elderly people between Mulao Minority and the Han nationality.There are differences in the positive rate of each factor such as somatization,anxiety,hostility,phobia,The Mulao positive rate was lower than the Han nationality(?2 between 5.456 ~ 12.140,all P < 0.05).4.One-Way ANOVA showed that the mental health status of the rural elderly in Mulao was different in different age,sex,marital status,educational level,religious belief,medical insurance,housing type,chronic condition and hospitalization(F between 3.062~64.740,all P<0.05).5.By means of Logistic regression analysis,it was found that six factors such as older persons(OR=1.281),women(OR=1.935),widowed and so on(OR=1.588),lower family income level(OR=0.677),chronic disease(OR=2.154)and hospitalization(OR=1.672)were in the final model.(OR between 0.677~2.154,all P<0.05).Conclusion: 1.SCL-90 have fairly good validity and reliability,and can be used to investigate the elderly of Mulao nation in rural area.But some should be revised to meet the demand of the people in low literacy.2.The elderly mental health situation of Mulao nation are much better than the Han nation of rural area in Guangxi.3.Age,sex,marital status,educational level,religious belief,medical insurance,housing type,chronic condition and hospitalization are determinants of the mental symptom of the elderly in Mulao Minority Rural Regions in Guangxi.4.The psychological symptoms positive risk factors are older,female,widowed and so on,suffering from chronic diseases,be hospitalized in the past year and the low level of economic among the elderly in Mulao nationality in Guangxi rural areas.
