BackgroundLong term heavy alcohol consumption will produce serious physical,mental and even social function damage.At present,alcohol dependence has become a serious public health problem in the world,which directly affects the individual’s health,family happiness and social stability.Alcohol dependence have high relapse rate which is more than 50% in 1 years after abstinence,and the reason leading to relapse may be associated with anxiety and depression "protracted withdrawal symptoms".Therefore,the study of protracted withdrawal symptoms and reduction of thirsty is of great significance.At present,there is no good way to treat alcohol dependence,so it is important to find a treatment that can effectively alleviate the symptoms and cravings of prolonged withdrawal.Domestic and foreign research shows that acupuncture has therapeutic value on alcohol dependence,and different frequency of electroacupuncture can affect the release of neurotransmitter in central nervous system.Therefore,the use of acupuncture to treatment withdrawal symptoms of alcohol dependence will provides new ideas for the treatment of alcohol dependence.ObjectiveIn this study,male patients with alcohol dependence who stopped drinking alcoholic beverages for more than two weeks were selected as the research group,and using electro acupuncture combined with drugs for treatment.To explore and compare the efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with mirtazapine and mirtazapine on the protracted withdrawal symptoms and craving of the patients with alcohol dependence.Methods80 male alcohol dependence patients were randomly divided into two groups,each group of 40 patients,electro acupuncture treatment group(experimental group)and the treatment group(control group).The experimental group was treated with electroacupuncture combined with mirtazapine(30mg/d),while the control group was treated with mirtazapine(30mg/d)for 4 weeks.Pennsylvania alcohol craving scale,Hamilton depression scale and Hamilton anxiety scale were assessed at baseline,the second weekend and the fourth weekend of treatment in the two groups respectively,in order to evaluate the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on alcohol craving and protracted withdrawal symptoms.The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 20 software,and the comparison between the two groups was conducted by using two independent samples t test.The paired t test was used before and after the treatment,and the level of correction was a=0.05/2.The comparison of adverse events between the two groups was performed by chi square test.If the data was not satisfied with chi square test,the Fisher exact probability method will be used.Inspection level a=0.05.Results1.Before treatment,there was no significant difference in PACS,HAMD and HAMA scores between the experimental group and the control group(P>0.05).2.In the end of 2 weeks and 4 weeks after treatment,the total scores of PACS,HAMD and HAMA were significantly lower than those of before treatment in experimental group and control group(P<0.05/2).3.In the end of 2 weeks and 4 weeks after treatment,the scores of PACS,HAMD and HAMA in experimental group were significantly lower than those of control group(P<0.05).Conclusions1.Electroacupuncture therapy can reduce the psychological craving of patients with alcohol dependence.2.Electroacupuncture therapy can improve the protracted withdrawal symptoms(anxiety and depression)in alcohol dependence patients.
