Objective:To improve the empowerment of peritoneal dialysis patients,we investigated the empowerment,self-efficacy and self-management in peritoneal dialysis patients;and then we analyzed factors which affect empowerment,self-efficacy and self-management in peritoneal dialysis patients;Besides,we discussed the effects of patient’s empowerment and self-efficacy on their self-management.Last,we analyzed the mediating effect of self-efficacy between patient’s empowerment and self-management.Methods:With convenience sampling method,we selected peritoneal dialysis patients in two hospital as research subjects. Then questionnaires were applied to 253 peritoneal dialysis patients who met the inclusion criteria from July to December in 2016.The questionnaire included five parts: the General Information of peritoneal dialysis patients,Peritoneal Dialysis Empowerment Scale-Short Form,Chronic Disease Self-efficacy Scales, and the self-management,Scale for Peritoneal Dialysis Patients. In this study, the measurement data was described by Mean ± SE.The count data was described by frequency and constituent ratio.ANOVA analysis,t-test,and rank sum were used for the one-way analysis of variance.Multiple regression analysis was used for multiple-factor analysis.Spearman analysis and Pearson analysis were used for correlation analysis.Results:1.The average score of empowerment was(3.91±0.59).There were statistically differences on the empowerment level between peritoneal dialysis patients with different characteristics, such as:sex, age, education, marriage, job, work status, the average family income, the types of health insurance, course of disease, period of dialysis, times of attend health promotion, medicine adherence(P <0.05).2.The average score of self-efficacy was(6.82?1.12).And the average score of self-management(63.87?10.87).3.The empowerment was positively related to the total self-efficacy(P <0.05).4.The empowerment was positively related to the total self-management and its different dimensions(P <0.05).5.The total self-efficacy and its different dimensions were positively related to the total self-management and its different dimensions(P <0.05).6.The self-efficacy is the mediator between empowerment and self-management,and the degree of mediating effect is 6.2146.Conclusions:1.The empowerment of peritoneal dialysis patients was at the moderate level and there were still cases with low health literacy.Sex,age, education, marriage, job, work status, the average family income, the types of health insurance, course of disease, period of dialysis, times of attend health promotion, medicine adherence were the main factors that affected patient’s empowerment.2.The self-efficacy of peritoneal dialysis patients was at the moderate level. And the self-management among peritoneal dialysis patients was also at the moderate level.3.The empowerment and the self-efficacy of peritoneal dialysis could both positively predict their self-management respectively. The self-efficacy was the mediator between patient’s empowerment and self-management.
