| ObjectiveWith the in-depth study of endocrine therapy and hormone receptor in breast cancer, prognostic value of estrogen receptor beta(ERP)expression exits controversy. Some studies have shown that ERβ positive indicates a good prognosis. There were other reports that ERβ is associated with poor prognosis. In this paper,we systematically evaluated the prognostic significance of ERβ in breast cancer prognosis using Meta analysis.MethodsMEDLINE,EMBASE,and Web of Science were used to search for literature on the prognostic relevance of ERβ levels in breast cancer patients between 1990 and 2017.A total of 27 studies met our inclusion and exclusion criteria, including a total of 9673 patients to assess overall survival(OS).ResultsIn the 27 included publications,we observed the total ERβ positive(HR=0.7095%CI,0.61-0.80,P=0.0007)can significantly improve the overall survival(OS),and the protective effect in ERanegative subgroup(HR=0.66,95%CI 0.43-1.00)was stronger than that in the ERapositive subgroup(HR=0.74,95%CI 0.54-1.00),while in the TAM treatment subgroup(HR=0.80,95%CI(0.66,0.98)and the non-TAM treatment subgroup(HR=0.71,95%CI 0.56-0.92),the protective value of ERβ was stable. When the ratio of ERα/ERβ<1(HR=0.66,95%CI 0.55-0.79,P=0.002),ERα/ERβ ratio is a protective factor for prognosis of breast cancer.Methodologically, the levels of ERβ and ERa/ERβ ratio detected by immunohistochemistry were also prognostic factors for OS in patients with breast cancer.ConclusionHigh level of ERβ and low ERα/ERβ ratio are all prognostic factors for OS in patients with breast cancer. |
