Objective To investigate the expression differences of PGE2 and COX-2 between colorectal cancer tissue and normal colorectal mucosa tissue, analysis the correlations to clinical pathologic data and the clinical significance. Methods The 115 cases of colorectal cancer specimens and 69 cases of normal colorectal tissue specimens of the colorectal cancer patients after operation in our hospital from January 2010 to September 2010 were collected. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression levels of PGE2 and COX-2 in those tissues. Investigate the expression differences of PGE2 and COX-2 between colorectal cancer tissue and normal colorectal mucosa tissue. And analysis the underlying mechanism of the prognosis with the correlations of the clinical characteristics and the five-year survival rate. Results Positive expression of PGE2 and COX-2 were 87.83%(101/115), 80.87%(93/115) in the colorectal cancer tissues, and 8.70%(6/69), 21.74%(15/69) in normal colorectal mucosa tissues separately(P<0.05). Expression of PGE2 and COX-2 was positive associated with tumor cell invasion, tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage(P<0.05). Using Spearman rank correlation analysis indicated that the PGE2 and COX-2 expression in tissues are positively correlated(r=0.987, P<0.05). Survival rate of the patients in both negative expression of PGE2 and COX-2(63.6%) were higher than the both positive expression(37.8%) significantly(P<0.05).Conlusion The expression of PGE2 and COX-2 in colorectal cancer tissues was higher than that in normal colorectal mucosa tissues. It means that PGE2 and COX-2 play an important role in tumorigenesis and progress. Meanwhile, it has been a possible role in colorectal cancer ’s diagnose and treatment.
