| Objective: By carrying out comparison analysis on different broader autism phenotype character traits in parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, language developmental delays and developmental delays, we find the reference of individualized intervention for families, as well as the correlated influence on those children’s clinical features and developmental levels. Methods: The study population consists of 30 families of children with autism spectrum disorders, 30 families of children with language developmental delays, and 30 families of children with developmental delays as three case groups, as well as 30 families of typical developmental children as control groups. We made comparison of scores on three subscales of the BAPQ between each case group and control group, also carried on further correlated data analysis with children’s developmental levels. Results: 1. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, language developmental delays or developmental delays, to some extend, expressed higher scores on three subscales of the broader autism phenotype questionnaire and higher incidence rate of broader autism phenotype symptoms than control groups. 2. The features of BAPQ results could also be seen different within three case groups, especially on the subscales of aloof personality and pragmatic language. 3. Correlations might be found between chlidren’s developmental quotient of Gesell developmental scales and parents’ scores of BAPQ. Correlation was especially higher in three domains: language behavior, personal-social behavior, and adaptive behavior in Gesell. Conclusion: 1. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, language developmental delays or developmental delays, showed more broader autism phenotype symptoms than those of control families, while slight difference could be seen in clinical manifestation within three case groups. 2. To some extend, the higher the BAPQ scores of parents were, the lower children’s developmental quotient of Gesell would be. Correlation might be implied from this result, in which the domains of language behavior, personal-social behavior, and adaptive behavior were showed more obviously. Further study was expected to provide advanced evidence. 3. BAPQ could be regarded as supplementary evaluation measures of the growth and developmental levels of children with autism spectrum disorders, language developmental delays or developmental delays, as well as an access for further understanding of parents’ character features in aloof personality, rigid personality, and pragmatic language aspects, so that we might provide individualized intervention for each family and promote better development for children. |
