| Objective: This study is to explore the relationship between serum Galectin-3 and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.Method : One hundred and eighty patients with atrial fibrillation were selected who admitted to the Cardiovascular Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China from April 2015 to September 2015 in this study. There were 60 cases in Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation group,60 cases in Persisten atril fibrillation group, and 60 cases in Sinus rhythm group. There were 53 cases in CHA2DS2-VASC score between 0-1 scores group, 57 cases in CHA2DS2-VASC score berween 2-3 scores group, and 10 cases in CHA2DS2-VASC scores ≥4 group. All patients were patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics, including age, gender, and smoking history, were recorded for all patients.Data related to the diagnosis of AF,including date of first diagnosis, oral anticoagulation, rate-controlling drugs, and antiarrhythmic medications, were also recorded. All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiographic examination to assess LAD and LVEF. Venous Blood samples of the patients were collected, then the serum levels of galectin-3 from the samples were estimated. At the same time,high-sensitivity C-reactive protein,Low density lipoprotein cholesterol,N-terminal probrain natriuretic pectide and other indexes were also measured. We compared Galectin-3,NT-pro BNP and LVEF in different groups, and analyzed the correlation among Galectin-3 and other indexes by statistical methods.Result:1.The serum levels of galectin-3,NT-pro BNP and LAD were significantly higher in patients with AF group than those with sinus rhythm group(P<0.05),were also significantly higher in patients with persistent AF group than those with paroxysmal AF group.(P<0.05)2.Correlation analysis showed that the serum levels of Galectin-3 and LAD had a positive Correlation(r=0.283,p<0.01),Galectin-3 and NT-pro BNP had a positive Correlation(r=0.351,p<0.01).3. In CHA2DS2-VASC score of 4 or more group and score of 2 to 3 group, serum Galectin-3 levels were significantly higher than score of 0 to 1 group(P<0.05), Then CHA2DS2-VASC score of 4 or more group higher than score of 0 to 1 group(P<0.05).4. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that serum Galectin-3( odds ratio[OR]: 1.551,95% confidence interval[CI]: 1.038 to 2.318,P=0.03) and LAD(OR: 1.268,95%CI: 1.039 to 1.549,p=0.020). The results demonstrated that serum galectin-3 and LAD were independent predictors of AF.Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that serum galectin-3(hazard ratio[HR]:1.280,95%CI:1.072 to 1.529,P=0.006) and LAD(HR:1.098,95%CI:1.012 to 1.192,P=0.025).The results demonstrated that serum galectin-3 and LAD were independent risk factors of AF recurrence and stroke coused by AF.Conclusions:1.The persisten atrial fibrillation group have higher serum Galectin-3 levels 、 serum NT-pro BNP levels and LAD than the Paroxysmal atril fibrillation group. Galectin 3 may involved in the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation2.The serum Galectin- 3 had positive correlation with serum NT-pro BNP and LAD had a positive Correlation.3.The Galectin-3 levels to be correlated with CHA2DS2-VASC scores, higher scores being significantly associated with higher serum levels.4.Serum galectin-3 and LAD were independent predictors of AF,were independent risk factors of AF recurrence and stroke coused by AF. |
