This paper discusses the basic knowledge about teeth in traditional Chinese medicine. Tooth, teeth location and the name referred to: to distinguish from the name, yang tooth and yin teeth; to distinguish from the location, generally speaking, it is no difference, carefully distinguish, tooth at the back and teeth at the front or just the opposite; During the growth and development, from primary teeth to permanent teeth to permanent teeth missing, teeth are closely linked with the level of kidney essence. The physiological functions of the teeth are bite and chew, auxiliary pronunciation, showing emotion looks and the age. This paper discusses the direct relationship between teeth and meridians. It aims to explore the relationship between teeth and kidney, bladder, spleen, stomach, lung, large intestine, liver, gallbladder, heart, and sums up the prescriptions and laws about toothache from the kidney, spleen, stomach, lung, large intestine, liver, gallbladder, heart. We find that the usual kidney toothache treatments are filling essence and qi method, nourishing yin method, warming yang method, yin and yang double complement method, and medicines are Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Jingui Shenqi Pills, Zhibai Dihuang Pills, Zuogui Pills, Yougui Pills, Guilu Erxian Decoction and the like; To treat toothache from the spleen and stomach, we often use nourishing yin and clearing away the fire from the stomach method, spleen dehumidification method, and often choose Qingwei Powder, Yunü Decoction, Shenling Baizhu Powder, Erchen Decoction etc; To treat toothache from the lung and large intestine, we often use dispersing cold and relieving pain method, dispersing wind and clearing heat method, promoting bowel movement and releasing heat method, and often choose Xixin Decoction, Yutong Decoction, Dachengqi Decoction etc; To treat toothache from the liver and gallbladder, we often use freeing liver qi and clearing away the fire from the liver method, relieving mental stress and nourishing blood method, and often choose Chaihu Shugan Powder, Longdan Xiegan Decoction, Danzhi Xiaoyao Powder etc; To treat toothache from the heart, we often use clearing away the fire from the heart method, expelling phlegm and promoting blood circulation method, and often choose Daochi Powder, Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction, Taohong Siwu Decoction like. From a new perspective of different meridians correspond to different teeth(different teeth match different meridians), this paper sums up numbers of literature and finds a close correspondence between teeth and internal organs. Upper teeth mostly correspond to six fu-organs and lower teeth mostly correspond to five zang-organs; Upper central incisors mostly correspond to heart and lower central incisors mostly correspond to kidney; Left and right sides, the upper teeth mostly correspond to stomach and the lower teeth mostly correspond to spleen; Teeth on the left side often correspond to liver or gallbladder and teeth on the right side often correspond to lung or large intestine. This paper sums up the preferred medicines for respective meridian toothache: heart, Huanglian, Maidong; kidney, Zhimu, Huangbai; stomach, Baizhi, Chuanxiong, Shigao; spleen, Baishao, Baizhu; large intestine, Dahuang, Zhiqiao; lung, Huangqin, Jiegeng; gallbladder, Longdan, Qianghuo; liver, Zhizi, Chaihu. It is hoped that this study will be helpful to improve the connotation of holistic view about viscera manifestation theory and be helpful to improve the treatment effect of toothache and other dental diseases.
