The Initial Histological And Morphology Study Of Idiopathic And Secondary Macular Epiretinal Membrane

Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare the features and etiology of idiopathic and secondary macular epiretinal membrane and to further elucidate the pathogenesis of idiopathic and secondary macular epiretinal membrane。Methods:Twenty macular epiretinal membrane (including 9 idiopathic macular epiretinal membranes patients and 11 secondary macular epiretinal membrane patients) were harvested during pars plana vitrectomy after removal of the posterior vitreous, then we examined them light and electron microscopically.Results:In the idiopathic macular epiretinal membrans group, the macular epiretinal membrane can be seen more predominant glials and epithelial cells, while there are a lot diverse cells, like fibroblast cells and inflammatory cells in the secondary macular epiretinal membrane group.Conclusion:1.The idiopathic macular epiretinal membrane demonstrated a few diverse cells, including predominant glials and epithelial cells。The secondary macular epiretinal membranes have more cells and more complex structure compared to the idiopathic one, which demonstrate that their pathogenesis are different。2.The macular epiretinal membrane, including the idiopathic and the secondary, is a slef-protection of our body。3.The second macular epiretinal membrane may protect macular against inflammatory factors at its initial stage, but as it grows, it repairs excessively and is harmful to the macular, the operation time still needs further research。...
