Objective:To observe and analyze the changes of ocular surface function in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy in active stage, and to understand the changes of ocular surface function in patients with active thyroid associated eye disease. Methods:Randomly selected 21 patients(38 eyes)as the case group, who diagnosed as active thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy in Nanchang University Affiliated Eye Hospital from March 2014 to February 2016,and 19 healthy people(38 eyes)were randomly selected as control group, the two groups of subjects underwent orbital specialist examination,Schirmer test(Schirmer I test),tear film break-up time(BUT),corneal fluorescein staining(FS),lower tear meniscus height(LTMH)and the meibography score.Comparison of the two groups of ocular surface function by statistical analysis.Result:The OSDI scores: The OSDI scores were higher in patients with TAO than that in controls, the mean score of OSDI was 29.6 in TAO,while the mean score in controls was 3.7,there had be a significant difference between the two groups; The Schirmer I test: Compared with the normal controls, patients with TAO showed statistically significant decrease in Schirmer I test(TAO 6.4mm/min,controls 11.5mm/min,P<0.05);Corneal fluorescein staining(FS): Fluorescein staining scores were higher in patients with TAO than that in controls, the mean score of FS was 1.47 in TAO,while the mean score in controls was 0,there had be a significant difference between the two groups;Lower tear meniscus height(LTMH): Lower tear meniscus height were lower in TAO groups, also have a statistically significant difference compared with controls, the average value was 0.172 mm in TAO,that was 0.221 mm in controls; The meibography score: The meibography score range 1-4 in TAO group, control group score in the range 0-1,average value of 2.37 and 0.11 respectively,TAO group were higher than that of the controls(P < 0.05),the difference was statistically significant;Tear film break-up time(BUT): The case group showed significant difference with control group(TAO 5.43 s,controls 12.76 s,P<0.05).Conclusion : Patients with active thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy suffer ocular surface function injury, mainly in: 1.Reduced tear secretion 2.Tear film instability 3.Corneal epithelial injury 4.Reduced lower tear meniscus height 5.The lack of meibomian gland.
