| Objective: Two kinds of root canal sealers,Gutta Flow 2 and iodoform-zinc oxide eugenol,were used to fill the root canal in the study.The pathological parameters including pain incidence and pain index after recent root filling were compared through both case reports to provide the theoretical support for clinic use of these two root sealers.Methods: 48 patients diagnosed as pulpitis(58 teeth)were chosen as the objects,and they were randomly divided into 2 groups(experiment group and control group)by order of hospitalization.The experiment group used Gutta Flow 2 as root sealers and control group used iodoform-zinc oxide eugenol.The case inclusion criteria were shown as follows: 1)patients with good mental and physical state,without history of drug allergy or severe systemic disease;2)patients without treatment before this visit.The case choice were strictly controlled to prevent exclude the diseases which could influence the evaluation of curative effect such as severe bending,calcified root canal,serious periodontitis,severe root resorption and root fractures.The teeth were diagnosed as pulpitis by auxillary examinations including clinical examination and X-ray examination.Both experiment group and control group underwent multiple treatments for the involved teeth.Combined with preoperative X-ray images,we remove detritus,open dental pulp and uncover pulp chamber under local anesthesia.DG16 and small K file were used to detect the number and direction of root canals,and then root canals were negotiated.Then root canal length measuring instrument was used to measure the work length and EDTA gel was used to lubricate the root canal during preparation.30#root canal was chosen,and then was protected from moisture by cotton lap.We used air gun to dry it and dry canal with paper point.Then,we placed Ca(OH)2 in root canal orifice,afterwards,we imported and sterilized it through lentulo spiral,and sealed it with adhesive tape and Zn O bilayer;Subsequent visit was arranged after 7 days,if it meet the indications of root canal filling,no pain or other discomforts will be found,sealers will be intact,and no off-odors or obvious exudation will be found in root canal.The two groups used Gutta Flow2 or iodoform-zinc oxide eugenol as root canal sealers respectively,with cold gutta-percha lateral condensation technique.X-ray images were taken after operations to verify and check the quality of root canal filling.Patients were informed of the complications of pain,swelling and other symptoms.Observation period of acute reaction was within 1-7 days after surgery;patients should get prompt medical attention if there is pain and other symptoms.The number and the index of pain should be recorded and analyzed.SPSS17.0 is used for statistical analysis to compare the incidence and index of pain after using these two kinds of sealing agents.Results: Within 1-7 days after surgery,pain incidences in experiment group(Gutta Flow2 as sealer)and control group(iodoform-zinc oxide eugenol)were6.9% and 27.6% respectively,which showed significant difference(P<0.05);through comparing the different pain index of both groups,we obtained the results that when pain degree reached grade II,the difference between experiment group and control group was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions: Recent pain incidence and pain degree after using Gutta Flow2 as root canal sealer was lower than using iodoform-zinc oxide eugenol as root canal sealers. |
