| Objective: To assess the risk of wild poliovirus(WPV) importation and transmission at the subnational level of Anhui within the Outbreak of Imported Wild Poliovirus in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2011,and conduct different actions according to different risk levels, establish strategies or policies and implement preventive activities as response to maintain polio-free status in Anhui. Methods: Based on WPV importation and transmission risk assessment toolkits, we used a revised risk assessment tool composed of primary and secondary indicators to conduct comprehensive analysis of the risk of WPV importation and transmission of each city in Anhui.Population immunization status, performance of the surveillance system for acute flaccid paralysis cases, and imported risk were primary assessment indicators; each primary assessment indicator contained several secondary assessment indicators. The secondary assessment indicators were scored, and the sum of the scores of all indicators for each city was used to identify the risk of WPV importation and transmission in each city.According to the result of risk assessment of Anhui and each city, implement preventive activities as response. Results: Three cities, including Bozhou,Anqing and Luan, were identified as high risk areas; 12 cities, including Fuyang, were medium risk areas; and Xuancheng,Maanshan, were low risk areas.According to the result of risk assessment, Anhui implemented effective activities, such as strengthened polio vaccination and acute flaccid paralysis( AFP) case surveillance, prevented WPV importation from travelers between Xingjiang and Anhui,WPV importation and transmission were effective prevented. Conclusion: Different strategies for poliomyelitis control and prevention should be developed based on the results of risk assessment of WPV importation and transmission, and effective mitigation activities should be implemented to maintain polio-free status in China. The secondary indicators should be adjusted as the process of poliomyelitis eradication changes. |
