Objective: Collagen triple helix repeat-containing1(CTHRC1)was identified to be overexpressed in several malignant tumors, and may be involved in the occurrence and development of these tumors.Out of the purpose, our study investigated the expression of CTHRC1 in digestive system neoplasms and adjacent cancers tissues, and to analyze the collection between CTHRC1 and clinical pathological parameters and prognosis of gastric cancer,to provide a new theoretical basis for the diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer.Methords:The protein expression profiles of CTHRC1 were studied in human esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, colorectal, liver, and bile duct cancers using immunohistochemistry. We explored the correlation between expression of the CTHRC1 in gastric cancer and clinical pathological parametes(gender, aga, tumor size,T-stage,lymph node metastasis,TNM stage, tumor differentiation). We used Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression models to investigate the association with CTHRC1 expression and prognosis of gastric cancer.Results:CTHRC1 was evidently overexpressed in human digestive system neoplasms except liver cancer. There was statistically significant difference with CTHRC1 in gastric cancer within age,T-stage,N-stage,TNM stage(P<0.05),but its expression in gender,,tumor size and tumor differentiation appeared no significant difference(P>0.05).We discovered that overexpression of CTHRC1 had poorer overall survival rates than those with low of CTHRC1 expression in gastric cancer patients. The positive of CTHRC1 expression was related to a poor overall survival(OS)in TNM 3 and TNM 4 stage.Univariate analysis confirmed that CTHRC1 expression, tumor size,T-stage,TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and tumor differentiation affected the prognosis of patients.Multivariate analysis showed that TNM stage(P=0.023)and CTHRC1(P<0.001)were the strongest independent prognostic factors for OS.Conclusions:Our study showed that the expression of CTHRC1 in human digestive system neoplasmswas evidently higher than the normal tissue adjacent to carcinoma expect liver cancer. We infered that CTHRC1 may be involved in the occurence and development of esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, colorectal and bile duct cancers.CTHRC1 expression was an independent prognostic factor for the overall survival of gastric cancer patients. It could serve as a promising biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.
