In order to explore effects of rainfall harvesting planting with different ridge and furrow width on moisture and temperature of soil and agronomic traits and yield of spring maize and reasonable improving advise for this system,the experiment was conducted in farming area of south Ningxia during 2015 to 2016.Four treatments were designed with different ridge and furrow width combination: R6F4: 80:40 cm,R6F6: 60:60 cm,R6F4: 60:60 cm,R5F1: 50:10 cm and conventional flat planting as control(CK).The results:1.The temperature of the soil was significantly increased with ridge and furrow rainfall harvesting system,5 cm soil R5F1,R8F4,R6F4,R6F6 respectively increased by 2.74,2.01,1.47,and 1.00 ? compared with CK in average the whole growing stage,15 cm soil layer R5F1,R8F4,R6F4,R6F6 respectively increased by 2.79,1.50,1.29,0.55 ? compared with CK in average the whole growing stage,especially in early growing stage(seeding stage and jointing stage),and the temperature is rising under a higher ridge/furrow ratio.2.Soil water status can be improved with ridge and furrow rainfall harvesting system in the whole growing stage of spring maize,and the soil moisture storage was increasing under a higher ridge/furrow ratio.R5F1,R8F4,R6F4 and R6F6 were increased by 11.75%,9.80%,9.41%,and 7.51%,respectively,compared with CK.The moisture storage of treatments with high ridge/furrow ratio decreased in the water critical period of dry year such as 2016.It may caused by the better growth of early stage which aggravated the consumption of soil water,but it is still unknown whether this phenomenon had a bad influence on the spring maize.3.Rainfall harvesting planting with the increase of ridge width and coverage ratio,expanding the difference between adjacent spacing,improves the light environment of maize function leaf,can significantly improve the harvest index of maize.By optimizing the width and coverage ratio,the water and the temperature enviroment of soil can be improved.The water use efficiency(WUE)and light use efficiency(RUE)of the teatments respectively increase by 97.22%,57.82%,67.11%,61.88% and 38.42%,26.44%,27.54%,25.26% in average during the two years compared with CK.
