Reinforced soil retaining wall is one of the retaining structure which has been widely used in engineering practice of the construction of the traffic.Expansive soil distributed widely in our country,also,due to lack of research about interaction between expansive soil and reinforced soil,the construction object of reinforced expansive soil retaining wall is not common.In order to investigate the adverse impact of reinforced soil retaining wall that been influenced by the swellabitity of expansive soil,method of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation has been uesd in this paper,with the help of numerical software FLAC3 D that based on three-dimensional Lanrangian explicit finite difference mtheod,results of stress-strain properties and potential failure mode of reinforced expansive soil retaining wall have been shown.Also,Advice that is beneficial to engineering design and practical has been given.The main work in this paper is followed as:(1)Summarizes the engineering properties and mechanism of reinforced retaining wall,the principle of expansive soil's swell-shrinking property ? cranny property and permeability.(2)Based on the conventional theory of reinforced retaining wall,discussed the stress distribution characteristics of reinforcement material when considerating with influence of swell-shrinking property.(3)Established reinforced retaining wall mode at a reasonable size in the FLAC3 D finite difference program,by comparing stress-strain relationships of padding?geogrid and face plate in case of whether considerating swelling force,found that tension distribution curves of geogrid and the deformation of wall panel has increased significantly under the influence of swelling force,also,the maximum deformation position has moved up becaus of consideration of swelling force,and research results have shown that the potential rupture angle has increased in this case.(4)According to the results and considering with practical engineering applications,Suggestion are given when swelling soil is used as the filler in reinforced soil retaining wall.
