Traditional optical devices based on glass have been widely used in optical research and engineering technology. These devices are based on refraction and reflection theory and fabricated through mechanical grinding and polishing process. However, they have some disadvantages like complicated fabrication process, large size, heavy weight, fragility and so on.With the development of optics,it is increasingly important to explore and fabricate optical device that is required to be smaller and lighter. In this paper, polymer dispersed liquid crystal(PDLC)Fresnel lens based on holographic technology is proposed. To fabricate H-PDLC Fresnel lens,PDLC material is exposed in the interference optical path that is formed between plane and spherical light beams. This kind of fabrication process of Fresnel lens has advantage of easy simple production, light weight, easy to miniaturization and integration. In addition, imaging property and electrically controlled diffraction experiments of H-PDLC Fresnel lens have been studied. The results show that it has unique multi-focus and multi-imaging symmetry characteristics and electrically controlled diffractive property. The phase modulation of incident light can be adjusted trough periodic refractive index distribution.According to the theory of optical interconnects, integrated electrically controlled optical interconnects devices can be fabricated using H-PDLC Fresnel lens as an independent unit.It will have wide application and prospect in the field of optical communication.
