As people increasingly concerned about environmental issues, the influence of refrigerant on ozonosphere and its greenhouse effect has drawn much attention from inside and outside of the industry. To find a new type of environmentally friendly alternative refrigerants has become a very urgent task. Based on the experimental study of R290 in air conditioners, this thesis is trying to explore the feasibility and performance of R290 as an alternatives, and to do some groundwork in the promotion of R290.In this thesis, the physical property of some alternative refrigerants are analyzed and compared. Based on the analysis, R290 is chosen as the focus of this study. Further calculation of the theoretical circulation using R290 as refrigerant is done too.The experiment on the performance of R290 is tested in the air-conditioning enthalpy difference laboratory. The influence of the type of evaporator(780~800mm), the flow-path(4/5/6 paths) of condenser and the diameter of evaporator(?5/7) is tested under the same conditions. In each test, we try to find out the best performance point though changing the match of capillary and charge amount. It can be known that the charge amount of R290 is far more less than R22, it's about 30% of it. Even though, the cooling performance of the system can reach a very high level which is 3782.8W and COP is above 3.50. But the heating performance is less satisfactory.Based on theoretical analysis and experiments, this paper draws the conclusion of advantages and disadvantages of R290, po ints out the parts that need further improvement and special attention, and provides basic direction for future research.
