Background Due to the heavy tasks,an emergency, rescue workers usually have a very tight work schedule and to busy to eat at the high stress condition.Since thiamine is a water soluble vitamin,it doesn't get stored in the body for very long, which play an important role in substance metabolism process and the metabolism of fat and regulation of energy. So enough supplement of thiamine would be crucial to promote the rescue operations. The objective was to establish the average requirement of thiamine in males with hard physical labour of rescue team. Methods A randomized,placebo-controlled,6-wk intervention was conducted in males aged 18~25 y(n=78)at supplemental levels of 0(placebo),0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8 or 1.0mg thiamine/d.Upon completion, draw blood samples on empty stomach, obtain urine samples, evaluate thiamine indicators. In order to understand the trophic structure of the objects,we will Adopt appropriate quantitative methodology, calculate the inflection point of blood thiamine level. In conjunction with changes in the other indicators, provide quantified suggestions on the national male adults' thiamine average requirement. Results Diet Surveys Cereal, milk, soybean, livestock meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and dried vegetable and sucrose intake failed to meet the military standard. The calorie distribution of three meals and the ratio of calorigenic nutrient intake was unreasonable. The intake of vitamin C and vitamin E,vitamin b2,and niacin meet the military standard. But it's deficiency in thiamine?riboflavin and vitamin A.Assessment of thiamine status Along with the increase in thiamine intake, effect of TPP % values gradually reduced.Overall thiamin defective rate were 34.7% and 6.9% respectively before and after the intervention. The thiamine nutritional status of the subjects has improved. Both the TDP level in hemolytic blood and TDP?TMP ?TTP level in whole blood all showed that 1.15mg/d is the inflection points of thiamine in the subjects' blood. Before and after the intervention, the determination of morning urine shows that before and after the intervention,The deficiency rate and defective rate of the subjects' thiamine level fell by 76.4% and 63.90% respectively. The results of 4 h urine load test shows when the intake is less than 1.15 mg/d.It has shown positive correlation between thiamine intakes and the thiamine level in urine. The daily dose through diet has no obvious side effects on body. Conclusion To ensure that thiamine requirement of males aged 18~25y with hard physical labour is at least 1.15 mg thiamine/d.Slight excess intake of thiamine not influences the maximum concentration and metabolic balance. The diet structure of this group needs to be improved. It is suggested the food pattern should be optimized, the need for oil should also be reduced. On the contrary, more dairy products, beans and soy products, fish and shrimp will be better.
