Kaolin is mainly composed of tiny sheet, fold, tubular flake of kaolinite cluster minerals(kaolinite, dickite, nacrite and halloysite, etc.) of less than 2 microns, whose ideal chemical formula is AL2O3-2SiO2-2H2 O. Its main mineral compositions are kaolinite and much water kaolinite. In addition to the kaolinite mineral clusters, some other minerals such as the montmorillonite, illite, pyrophyllite, quartz and feldspar are associated. The name Kaolin, which is used internationally, is originated from Kaolin mountain near the Kaolin village in the east suburb of jingdezhen.With large amount of mineral deposits and cheap price of Kaolin in our country, its products are one of the important aspects of green application development at present. According to its shape, kaolin ore can be roughly divided into flake kaolin and tubular kaolin(halloysite). Its basic research has an important guiding role on the actual application of kaolin. Therefore, this article will focus on the study of two forms of kaolin mining.The ink is different according to the different printing requirements. And in order to get the needed ink, filler is added. News offset printing ink is no exception.Now at home and abroad we mainly use calcium carbonate as the filler of press ink. Owing to the characters of not easy to disperse and easy to secondary gathered themselves together, it makes the ink thickening in the storage period. With poor hiding power and range of motion, it is difficult to adapt to the requirement of high speed printing now. Literature about the use of kaolin in the printing ink has appeared abroad, which shows that it can overcome the shortcoming of calcium carbonate, and is a good ink packing replacement. But at present with a great variety of kaolin in the market, we face the problems about the usage of different kinds of kaolin and how to use, which need further analysis and research and is also the research emphasis in this paper.In this paper we choosed kaolin as the research object. Because Kaolin ore contain such metal as carbon, iron, calcium, titanium, and other non-metallic impurities, which has a great influence on the experimental study, in this experiment we first studied the kaolin in removing impurity, whitening, and then using the method of differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction(XRD) characterization we evaluated its performance, as well as the preparation and performance of kaolin nanotubes for table card. Finally we applied it in the production of new printing ink, and at the same time we evaluated which king of kaolin is more suitable for news ink production.
