The catering industry is a main industry of traditional tertiary industry. With the development of tertiary industry, the catering industry has also made a great development respectively and played an important role in the national economy. Rational development of the catering industry can improve people’s life quality, explore the channels of employment, stimulate related industries, expand market consumption, and promote social progress. Overseas researches are mature and sophisticated, standing at a point of operators and consumers. Domestic related researches are also very rich, mainly referring to the catering industry in developed regions. As for the majority of Chinese ethnic areas, there are few researches in this area. Recent researchers mostly derived from the economical perspective such as enterprise management, industrialization, chain business and other economic points of view, but ignored the ethnic areas’complex situation. The catering industry in ethnic areas needs to grasp the national and regional factors, integrate the ethnic food culture, pay close attention to industry factor, and take environmental concerns and political and economic factors into account.The development of catering industry in Weishan contains not only profound historical and cultural connotations but also rich Chinese ethnical features, which has played an important role in the national economy. It is important to develop Weishan catering industry from the perspective of the nation, going deep into ethnic regional characteristic with a combination of economic industry. In this paper, start with the concept, classification, features and influence factors of the catering industry, it analyzed the development course, development status, characteristics, and existing problems on Weishan catering industry. As far as it goes, certain problems remain in terms of non-optimization of develop environment, non-prominence of national characteristics and geographical features, drain of the time-honored brand, unfair competition in marketing and family-run management. So, it is necessary to put forward valuable problem-oriented suggestions from optimizing developing environment, making ethnic distinctive catering industry, increasing products added value, transferring the conception of talent training, lying stress in protection to the time-honored brand, improving the industry management, integrating resources, conspiring development, completing the management mechanism, and establishing an industry chain. For these problems, this paper proposes countermeasures for the development, with a view to providing reference for development of catering industry in Weishan and other ethnic regions.
