In order to stride forward from large aviation country to power one, it’s an essentialrequirement for China to promote and improve the regional air transportation market. It cannot only meet the basic air travel needs of people,but also can effectively stimulate thedevelopment of regional economy. With the rapid development of air transportation industrysince the twenty-first century, the regional aviation has gradually become a focus in China’sdeveloping civil aviation industry. Therefore, it has become a hot issue for civilaircraft manufacturers, airlines and government planning departments to analyze a specificregion’s regional aircraft market demand structure and scale in a scientific and reasonableway. This paper aiming at establishing a method to analysis the specific areas’ regionalaircraft market demand, the following two aspects were focused:1) The definition of regional aircraft’s target market in specific region. Firstly, theregional airlines were classified into several typical airline markets by using the clusteringmethodology based on the idea of segmenting airline routes market in types and classes. Thenthe market share of the corresponding aircraft was defined according to the passengerdistributing ratio of different aircraft types and classes in typical markets. To ascertain areasonable classification number, on the basis of previous research, the traditional K-meansclustering algorithm was improved in this paper. The example showed that the effect is idealby the improved K-means clustering algorithm.2) The market demand analysis methods of regional aircrafts in specific region based onoptimized fleet capacity allocation in airline network. In order to solve the problem thattraditional demand analysis methods are incapable of analyzing and optimizing regionalaircraft market, in this paper, a civil aircraft direct operating cost (DOC) evaluation modelwas built. In this model the key elements of aircraft types and classes as well as the explainingvariables were adopted. On this basis, after considering the limiting factors such asthe regional airline passenger volume, the flight frequency and aircraft type, and the goal ofminimizing DOC, a regional aircraft market demand analysis model was constructed based onoptimized fleet capacity allocation in airline network. By this model, the optimal flightsarrangement of each type and class aircraft in this region could be obtained, and the different demands for aircraft could also be acquired eventually.
