Wireless channel, an important part of the whole relay satellite communication system, has a direct and significant impact to the signal quality and system performance. Compared with the traditional communication, satellite communication has special features, such as longer delay, complex fading characteristics, Doppler frequency shift, sharp noise, and so on. In real communication scenarios, the channel is influenced by various kinds of shelters, and the fading characteristics change complicatedly. For channel quality detection, we need to take all factors into consideration, so the study of satellite communication channel fading characteristics is necessary.In this paper, according to the requirements of the relay satellite communication channel simulator, the model development and hardware implements of channel fading characteristics are deeply studied. The main works and contributions are as follows:1. Study on the fading characteristics of satellite communication channel, and give a structure diagram of implementation based on the mechanism of transmission. The fading characteristics models are also simulated by Matlab tool.2. The digital signal processing function of fading characteristics simulator is realized by FPGA, including Rician fading and Rayleigh fading models. The Modelsim function simulation and board debugging results validate the correctness of the whole hardware design method.
