Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a kind of multi-hop, centerless and self-organizing network, which is mainly based on Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork (VANET). In order to ensure the real-time performance and reliability of inter vehicle communication in vehicular networks, this thesis focuses on the design and implementation of real-time and reliable communication algorithm using Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) platform. Firstly, the reliable and delay-bounded Dedicated Multi-channel MAC (DMMAC) is selected for Media Access Control (MAC) layer from the perspective of the overall VANET system. In addition, a corresponding analytical model taking delay into account is proposed to guide the setting of Slot for Reservation (SFR). Furthermore, a series of algorithms used for implementation are proposed based on DMMAC. DMMAC is then upgraded to Enhanced DMMAC (E-DMMAC) based on MIMO technique to achieve the joint optimization of physical layer and MAC layer. Secondly, from the perspective of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, a point-to-point communication algorithm is designed to realize the point-to-point data transmission between MIMO platforms. Tests are conducted to verify the real-time performance and reliability, whose results show that the proposed algorithm can successfully apply to VANET environment.This thesis is divided into five chapters as follows. Chapter 1 mainly introduces the background of this thesis, the significance of the research work and the state-of-the-art. Chapter 2 analyzes the MIMO-based VANET. In Chapter 3, an algorithm based on DMMAC protocol is proposed and implemented. In Chapter 4, a real-time and reliable algorithm based on MIMO platform is designed and implemented. Chapter 5 summarizes the contents of the whole thesis, and gives some perspectives of the future work.
