Using the development of a board-level testing and fault diagnosis system as its background, this paper is focused on analyzing and researching a board-level signal generator in the device under test. Through theoretical analysis, experimental testing and other technical means, this paper study how it works and improve it to a certain extent on the basis of drawing its design idea. Experiment shows that the signal generator which is improved its design in this paper has better performance.To accomplish the above subject objectives, this paper mainly completes the following research work in the case that we only have the physical circuit board but have no relevant information:1. By surveying and mapping the physical circuit, reverse plot the original board designs and preliminarily divide the functional blocks of the circuit, then according to the mapped out schematic and combining with physical model, analyze types and parameters of components, as well as the logic function of each integrated circuits;2. Detailed analyze the working principle of the delineated regional circuit, analyze and calculate its electrical parameters, simulate and verificate sub-circuit functions, then integrate all local circuit functions, establish mathematical model for the circuit, describe its signal processing features, thereby obtaining an accurate function that the overall circuit system implements;3. Derive and calculate the basic formula relationship between the signal parameters, thus deeply understand the inner working mechanism of the circuit, obtain overall comprehensive performance indicators for the circuit, verify the correctness of theoretical analysis results and calculated indicators through computer simulation of this paper;4. Based on the theoretical analysis and experimental results of the original board and combined with improved design of the signal generator, verify whether the function and performance indicators of the inverse solved circuit meets expectations under test platform. The test results for the physical board show that the improved design of the circuit has a high performance. Therefore, both theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the correctness of the research work in this paper.In summary, through a large number of theoretical analysis and experimental work in this subject, we get a lot of circuit theory analysis results and experimental data analysis, this provides an important theoretical basis and technical support for the maintenance and repair of the tested equipment, thus effectively improving the maintenance and support capabilities for the tested equipment. At the same time, the theoretical analysis and circuit improvement attempt in this paper have also laid a solid practical foundation for further research on signal generator and provide analytical means and experimental methods that can be used for reference for circuits which lack schematics and data material. Therefore, the work for this issue has some theoretical and engineering practical significance.
