In the process of mechanical design, structural parameters of the parts need to be changed many times. Designers need to build models and draw pictures for every key size parameter changes. This process is very complicated and inefficient. In order to realize the rapid design of specific products, it is important to build advanced products structural parametric design platform by completing a second development process of the existing design software.Based on the traveling wave tube as the research object, through the UG software development tool set, the mechanical structure of the traveling wave tube design, parts of 3 d parametric modeling, virtual assembly design and engineering drawing are studied preliminarily. This paper analyses the structure characteristics of every parts and components in the traveling wave tube. The feature modeling technology and structural parametric design technology are combined to create parts model. To store a series of similar model to the secondary development program. Designers write programs to drive parts of key structure size according to your design intent.The paper create the human-computer interaction interface for components model by model parameter editing. Through a combination of top to down and bottom to up assembly technology, the subject complete the virtual assembly of travelling wave tube. To improve product assembly process, The paper adopts interference inspection technology in the process of assembling and motion simulation analysis. It vivid displays the traveling wave tube assembly process and improves the efficiency and feasibility of travelling wave tube assembly.Using VS2013 and UG secondary development tool set, the paper completes the structure of the traveling wave tube parameterized system development. The menu interface of traveling wave tube structure parametric designing system is designed by UG/Open MenuScript scripting language. The dialog system is designed by UG/Open UIStyler. In VS2013 software development environment, model parameters can be passed by programming to generate dynamic link library file(. DLL files).The paper preliminary finished the functions of travelling wave tube 2 d engineering drawings automatically generated and annotation.The paper analyses the machining errors of travelling wave tube high frequency structure by using MTSS software,which gets the strength of the sensitivity of each parameter and error range.It is helpful to guide the process and assembly of travelling wave tube.Practical application shows that the traveling wave tube structure parametric system designed by UG secondary development tools set is able to complete the rapid modeling and engineering drawing of traveling wave tube parts. It can effectively improve the traveling wave tube digital manufacturing tasks.
