Soil erosion monitoring is the basis of soil erosion control. The qualitative and quantitative measurement on soil erosion area can provide data to support the prevention and control of soil and water conservation, while there are some disadvantages in present monitoring method of soil erosion, such as high cost, low efficiency, and strong professional and so on. With the development of computer vision technology, image sensor technology and digital image processing technology, the image measurement technology is becoming more and more widely used in every fields because of its accurate and fast, such as the measurement of the workpiece in the manufacturing industry, the measurement of plant leaf area, and so on. Therefore, this research attempts to combine the image measurement technology with the soil erosion measurement, and puts forward the method of soil erosion measurement based on image. The method based on digital image processing technology, sets a reference object whose area is known to the soil erosion, and then collects images of them, then extracts erosion features through image segmentation, finally, calculates the area of soil erosion to accomplish the purpose.Image processing part:This research based on the MATLAB platform, realize soil erosion image reading, preprocessing and image segmentation to extract erosion area target information. The part of image segmentation achieves accurate extraction of target by using the improved K-means clustering algorithm, then acquires edge information of the erosion regions by edge detection processing, and then the final extracted image of erosion regions will be get by the morphology processing.Area measurement part:label the connected regions of the extraction binary image of soil erosion and acquire the number of pixels, finally calculate the area value of soil erosion regions with the object area by the proportional relationship in pixel number and region area. The result of error analysis, based on a large number of experiments, shows that the measurement accuracy of this method is better than 3D laser scanner monitoring method and high precision GPS monitoring method, Therefore, the soil erosion measurement method based on image can satisfy the requirement of soil erosion measurement accuracy because of the advantages of high efficiency, high precision and so on and has feasibility.Software platform part:this paper build the software platform for the soil erosion measurement based on image based on the MATLAB platform at the end, the software can realize accurate, rapid and convenient measurement of the area parameter of soil erosion region, and through periodic measurement soil erosion monitoring can be achieved to acquire other parameters, such as soil erosion rate and so on.
