In this paper, we discuss the method of using adaptive technique to improve the performance of system throughput in meteor burst communication system.Firstly, we introduce the basic theory of meteor burst communication in the mass. The characteristic of the channel, the basic principle of meteor burst communication, the communication protocol and the channel capability are explained in detail.Secondly, we introduce the principle of adaptive symbol-rate technology and analyze the throughput performance; focusing on the demand for high throughput and low transmission power, an associated adaptive power and rate method is proposed and a practical implementation is suggested.Thirdly, we introduce the basic principle of adaptive modulation and an expression for the throughput performance is derived which provide academic gist for the design of adaptive modulation system; focusing on the problem of low spectrum efficiency and small quantity of meteors, we proposed an adaptive Turbo-TCM modulation which increase average throughput over uncoded fixed-rate system by 2.5 times. Finally, we research the adaptive coding technology. First, the performance of different fixed-rate RS code is compared. Then, the basic principles of Pursely variable-rate coding and type-I hybrid ARQ are introduced. Focusing on the disadvantage of other adaptive coding methods on flexibility and efficiency, a new type-Ⅱhybrid ARQ which is based on half-rate invertible RS code is proposed. This method can significantly increase the system throughput. The results of this dissertation are significant for the application of adaptive technology in meteor burst communication.
