At present, VPItransmissionMaker? Optical Systems, which are world-class software on the field of optical network and device simulation, have been widely applied in the research of optical fiber communication. Although VPI provides abundant and modularized components, it is relatively restricted and lagged to meet the needs of users. The cosimulation interface of VPI allows the third-party software to develop the new VPI component. Therefore,we can make full use of the VPI optical simulation platform for optical communication research works in wider fields.This thesis applies a novel and linear carrier phase estimation algorithm to the VPI simulation platform, which is called data aided decision maximum likelihood algorithm. Reference phasor of DAML algorithm contributes to avoid the problem of phase ambiguity. Based on the DLL cosimulation interface of VPI, this thesis completes the design and development of DAML coherent receiver. DLL function file of DAML receiver is developed by C++ language in VS2005 platform. This thesis focus on the development of DAML coherent receiver on three aspects, including building the internal structure of receiver, creating the default parameters and implementing the function. The developed DAML receiver not only achieves the traditional DAML carrier phase estimation algorithm, but also completes an adaptive DAML algorithm.The developed DAML receiver is verified by simulation contrasted to the standard device called DSP_Lib in simulation demo of VPI. The simulation results show that the constellation diagram and bit error rate of the simulated system from DAML coherent receiver are accurate and reliable.Finally, in order to verify the practicability of DAML coherent receiver, the QPSK simulation system of coherent detection is built on the basis of VPI simulation platform of simulation system. The device standard DSP_Lib is used for compensating the dispersion loss and nonlinear effects of optical fiber link, while DAML coherent receiver eliminates the phase noise and computing the BER of system.
