On The In-Depth Reporting Of Sports News In NEW SPORTS Since China’s Reform And Opening-Up (1979-2011)

The reform and opening-up since 1978 has brought China profound changes in every corner of the society. During this time, the development of the Chinese journalism and sports has jointly bred the in-depth reporting of sports news in China. A component of in-depth reporting, the sports news in-depth reporting is speculative, instructive and authoritative on the one hand. On the other, it also has its specific features in being sentimental, popular and professional because of the influence of sports news reporting. As a result of its development over this long period, the in-depth reporting of sports news has formed a unique reporting mode. In addition, the healthy development of the sports news in-depth reporting is significant in boosting the development of the nation’s sports and enhancing people’s enthusiasm in participating sports activities. However, the sports news in-depth reporting is still a new research area in China.New Sports, the first professional sports journal in China, started the dissemiantion and transmission of sports news of the country. On the basis of the two turning points in the history of China’s sports development since the Chinese reforming and opening-up, this paper divides the years from 1979 to 2011 into three stages. With the sports journal New Sports as the study object and by means of document research, content analysis, and comparative analysis, etc.,the paper analyzes and summarises the past and present siturations and summarizes the specific features and the direction of develomen of the in-depth reporting of sports news of the journal.The first part of the paper reviews and summarizse the history of the in-depth reporting of sports news and its research status in China, and defines the concept of "in-depth reporting of sports news". After that, the paper analyzes the selection, objects, presentation and stylistic structures of the sports news reports of the journal in its three stages of development by using methematical statistics and content analysis. Then the paper sums up the different features of these sports news reports in the three stages of the journal.In addition, the causes of these features are also analyzed from the aspects of social environment, sports policies and audience needs in the three different stages. Finally, according to the features of these different stages, the paper looks into the future development of the in-depth reporting of sports news of the journal.The paper studies the in-depth reporting of sports news with a historical profundity and analyzes its development process, features of the different stages and the factors of influence. It is hoped that the paper could provide a historical reference to the theory and practice of the in-depth reporting of sports news in China.
