Terahertz science and technology have made great progress and development both in basic theory research and in the field of practical application. The current bottleneck for terahertz technology to the practical application is the high power terahertz radiation sources based on miniaturization, so the effective way to promote the terahertz technology application is to increase the power level to Watts by vacuum electronics amplifier. In this paper, as an illustration of the open grating-hole array structure to improve the performance of the vacuum electron device, an amplifier with frequency of 0.14 THz is designed and analyzed.The main work of this paper is as follows:First, the high frequency characteristics of the open grating-hole array structure have been investigated. The operating mode and the field distribution are obtained by the HFSS simulation. We studied the effect of the sidewall and coupling hole on the electrical field property.Then, we analyzed the influence of structure parameters on the dispersion characteristics and coupling impedance. The transmission properties of electromagnetic wave based on the grating- hole array structure have been studied.Second, a terahertz amplifier is designed using the 3D particle-in-cell(PIC) code. We analyzed the beam-wave interaction process of grating-hole array structure and the influence of structure parameters on the output properties of the device. Finally, the operating parameters of the terahertz amplifier are obtained with the working frequency of 142.4GHz, the output power of 67.2W and the gain of 28 dB, energy conversion efficiency over 10% in the high structure.The results show it will increase the gain and efficiency of the device by using the characteristics that hole array structure can enhance the grating surface electric field intensity and coupling impedance. Using the grating-hole array structure with floor and sidewall as the high-frequency system of terahertz amplifier,it can effectively input and output the signal and reduce the leakage of electromagnetic energy.
